How Seronda was born?

"Only a life lived by the others could be lived."
Albert Eisntein

Brief history

At the end of 1995, a group of friends including a former Fundación Revillagigedo student (Gijón), consider the idea of starting an association to cooperate within their means with the work that Manolo Maquieira is carrying out in Central America.

However, a long period of time has to pass before the first documentation written in this respect appears in April 1997.

In that first document a series of questions are raised: Why create a registered charity? What objectives are to be pursued?; questions of economics and personal effort, development of our personal relationships and satisfaction of our worries.

In a second meeting eight people attend and therein decide on the name of Seronda and to fix the monthly quota at a thousand pesetas (30€). These eight people are the founding members of this association that today numbers more than one hundred and twenty-five people willing to cooperate with those that need it most.

As of this meeting all the necessary paperwork is undertaken with the Cooperation Board of the PRINCIPADO OF ASTURIAS, the tax office and Gijón City Council so that the association is legally constituted and inscribed in the appropriate registers.
